It used to be that traveling to Costa Rica was an arduous, although worthwhile, task. Not so anymore and it is becoming easier and easier all the time. It was not so long ago that flights to Costa Rica were extremely limited and once you got there it was a long trek over dirt roads and uncharted trails to get to the exotic beaches and beautiful mountains. Hotels were virtually non-existent and the ones that were available often had no electricity or running water.
These days you can hop on a plane at a variety of locations across the United States and Canada with much greater cooperation between the airlines being allowed due to deals between Canada and Costa Rica and the expanded flight schedules to Costa Rica on JetBlue that began just last year. The airport is being expanded and modernized and a new major highway is being completed this year that will cut hours off travel time to major Costa Rican destinations.
The really cool thing about all this is that everything in Costa Rica has to be done to stringent guidelines that protect the unique environment and wildlife of Costa Rica, so the added conveniences don’t destroy the natural beauty of the extraordinarily diverse ecosystem that exists here. This means that you can get to Costa Rica more easily, enjoy a much more comfortable stay and still enjoy the beauty of the natural surroundings the way they were meant to be enjoyed.
In most places in the world you have to choose between modern convenience and natural beauty. Countries that are over-modernized have traffic, pollution, billboards and tall buildings destroying the view. Undeveloped countries have little sanitation and few comforts. Once again, Costa Rica provides the best of both possible scenarios and its getting better all the time.
