A Hospital in Jaco Costa Rica?

Rumor has it that the famous expat favored hospital CIMA, is considering a branch in Jaco. Costa Rica. Whether or not that happens remains to be seen. But for years there has been talk of the need for this service especially in recent years as Jaco’s permanent residents nearing a year round population of 11K people whom are buying Jaco Beach real estate. Adding to this strain is the enormous influx of tourists during the high season that seeks medical care too for holiday bumps and bruises.

Right now the only hospital option from Jaco is in Quepos or Puntarenas, which are both about 45 minutes from Jaco. This distance to receive emergency medical care is enough motivation for residents to demand a better medical facility than the current one located by the Jaco Post Office.

Called Ebais, this is Jaco’s medical center which is run by the Costa Rica government. Residents from the surrounding communities alos use Ebais for everything from vaccine injections to urgent care treatment. The current strain on Ebais has prompted the Garabito government to request another medical clinic in this canton. Locations for the new CCSS medical clinic is rumored to be in Tarcoles or Lagunillas. Both of these locations are north of Jaco and is where the majority of Jaco workers live.

As the year round expat population increases, private clinic have moved into the Jaco area providing fee based medical care, which is still very cheap compared to the US prices for treatment. These medical clinics are often staffed with English speaking doctors which has a calming effect on patients and families during urgent care situations.

The long short of this is simple and music to the ears of real estate investors. Supply and demand will push the expansion of other services in the Jaco Beach area. As this continues to occur, property values will continue to increase. Also, if you need medical care here in Jaco it is available when you need it at the private clinics, even when Jaco is busting at the seams during high season.
