Sunsets in Costa Rica

I guess I’ve always been a sucker for a beautiful sunset. I believe I shared an experience the other day about an the experience I had seeing the sunset at the golf course as I walked to the 18th hole and how that had kind of played a role in my decision to make this my home. Well, I still love the sunset in Costa Rica and now I have a beautiful wife to share them with.

One place we love to go to see the sunset is the Villa Caletas Hotel. Their slogan is “Close to Heaven” and once you’ve been there, you’ll understand why. This place is situated on a jungle hilltop overlooking the ocean. I’m pretty sure there is no other place on earth like this–as you look down both sides of this mountain you can see where the rainforest ends and the sandy shoreline of the beach begins. It is such a dramatic and beautiful contrast.

Well, there is nothing like watching the sunset on the ocean and watching it from a mountainside in a tropical rainforest is nothing short of incredible. Picture the beautiful burnt oranges and rich golden streams of sunlight pouring out over the horizon and being doubly beautiful as it is reflected across the ocean. Then, depending on the season, there may be hues of purples, blues or reds like small glimpses of the rainbow spectrum. It is truly a surreal experience and sometimes I can hardly believe that this place is my life now.

If you ever happen to be heading to Jaco on business or perhaps for the surfing or fishing competitions, make sure to spend at least one night at the Villa Caletas and make sure you check in early enough to watch the sunset.
