Retirees Guide to Buying Costa Rica Real Estate

If you are considering buying real estate for a Costa Rica retirement home there are many important considerations you need to look out for. Costa Rica is a popular destination for retirees both for vacations and for a permanent retirement home. Costa Rica has a low crime rate and offers all the amenities of the United States in it cities. Retire in Costa Rica can be a benefit because of its low cost of living and property costs when choosing to live there in their golden years.

There are, however, some practical considerations for retirees that they need to think about before moving to Costa Rica. Most people of retirement age begin to have health concerns and must think about access to medical care. There is access to quality health care in Costa Rican cities such as San Jose, but in rural Costa Rica or in some beach resort areas access to a major hospital can take a trip of over an hour.

Access to shopping, malls, entertainment, and other attractions that many people want to enjoy during their retirement can also be limited if they opt for a retirement home too far away from a major city. Costa Rica has plenty to do near their beach resorts and major cities, but rural life has much less to offer. Electricity, phone, and internet services are widespread in the city and populated beach areas but in rural areas access can be limited or expensive to get.

If you are planning on making Costa Rica your permanent home you should consider moving to one of the more populated areas for access to health care and easy access to amenities without paying a premium for services to reach your rural home. You will want to avoid the tourist areas, however, because prices are usually inflated because of the tourist industry and your cost of living will be higher.
