What You Need To Know Before You Purchase Costa Rica Real Estate

Before you even think about plunking down some money for Costa Rica Real Estate, there are some things that you need to know and be aware of. These tips can help you not to be swindled as you’re looking for a nice piece of property in Costa Rica.

1.The property that you’re interested in should be looked at for zoning information. If you have an agent, they should be able to tell you what kind of zoning restrictions apply to the Costa Rica real estate property you’re looking to purchase. There are plenty of zoning restrictions in Costa Rica that can affect your property. That includes beachfront and oceanfront properties.

2. You will have a problem if the owner of the Costa Rica real estate property has a lien due to unpaid taxes. To avoid frustration and embarrassment, check the online registry to see if the property has any holds on it.

You will be able to find out the status of the property, including title and anything else that may be held against it. The only downfall with the registry is that it is in Spanish.

Unless you know some or a little of the language, you won’t know what they’re talking about. Your best bet is to take someone, preferably the real estate agent, that knows what’s going on with the property.

3.You will want to know what kind of neighborhood you’ll be living in. So the best thing to do is to check it out before you purchase. You want to know everything you can about the neighborhood. Even though Costa Rica has been touted as a low crime area, it’s still good to know if there is even a little bit in the area you’re interested in.

4.You will probably need to make several trips to the Costa Real estate property in question. You will need to look at the property thoroughly, especially if it’s already established. If you’re planning on purchasing property as a retirement home, it’s a good idea to get everything worked out prior to retirement. You don’t want any surprises once you’ve moved to Costa Rica.

5. Make sure the real estate agent in question is legitimate. The downside of purchasing Costa Rica real estate from an agent is that they are not required to be licensed. They are also not required to have any special training or schooling to become an agent. Check them out as much as you can.

These tips are very helpful, especially if you’re not familiar with purchasing Costa Rica real estate. Get as much information as you can so that you will be armed when it’s time to get that piece of property.
